Shaun Rabah
Pull
Experimental Video / Short Art Film
2021

About the Artwork
Pull is an experimental short art film and installation that documents different stories on the societal pressures experienced around the topic of gender dynamics in Arab culture.

About the Artist
Shaun Rabah is a multimedia artist, who explores concepts of identity, emotion, and connection through different forms of artworks ranging from video to geometric abstract paintings. His photo and video graphics work center on human facial and micro-expressions as a form of personal life storytelling.
He has been exhibiting his visual art since 2011. Many of his works have found their way into respected galleries, private collections and have also been featured in Home & Design magazine.
His latest series U centers on capturing people’s micro-expressions around the mouth as they think about their life as an exercise in duality. He would have them sit and focus on the bad and challenging aspects in their life for two minutes then on the positive in their life, for another two minutes. This footage is then incorporated into different videos and photographic digital artwork, often incorporating augmented reality.
Over the past 4 years, He has traveled through 13 countries and collected over 300 videos of people sharing their life story in the primal language of facial expression. The work has taken on an added significance and relevance with the onset of the Coronavirus epidemic with the mandates of masks, which shroud these micro-expressions and are leading to further alienation, isolation, and separation amongst us. This work explores new ways of understanding and feeling each other’s stories through facial expression and emotions.

Zaina Said
Desert Trail
Digital Collage Art & Mixed Media
2021

About the Artwork
This work aims to create a visual dialogue which narrates the essence of Bedouin life, by the use of elements and symbols that shed light on the pride, beauty and spirituality of the nomadic people of Jordan.

About the Artist
Zaina El-Said was born in 1978 in Jordan, of North Caucasian origin. She completed her higher education in 2001 from the American Intercontinental University in London. Between travels and missions between Europe, America and Russia, it wasn’t until year 2010 that Zaina settled back in Amman and took up arts as her career path. Being brought up in a family of artists it seemed destined she would eventually follow the household footprints.
Zaina began painting, mainly drawn to geometry and calligraphy, but it wasn’t until 2014 that she took a major turn and delved into the world of collage art. Using different material on canvas was a starting point which led to creating whole pieces from cut out magazines, newspaper, CD covers and any available material she found. It was the different textures and eclectic and surreal result that she was drawn to achieve. Collage art was a way in assembling worlds from already existing places and people. Moving forward with the collage technique, Zaina switched to digital collage and transformed her works to digital, and managed to mix both digital and hand cut together in her works.
Zaina’s collage art focuses on assembling many worlds into one, usually led by a protagonist; she focuses on mixing world cultures, architecture, motifs, archaeology, arts and nature into a single portrait to convey that human innovation complements one another harmoniously with nature. Her works can be described as surreal, symmetrical, colorful and full of patterns.

On our Bodies 3
Installation
2014

About the Artwork
On our bodies...
They left no place for dreams... Imagination is no longer there.... Their hands exploited everything, the past, the present and the future... They smeared our souls... Tarnished the joy, love and hope... Even our tears.... Detained our souls, leaving us to suffocate... Our bodies are no longer there... Our bodies are now their battle fields, tainted, smeared, fought upon with their insane wars... Who could restore the long lost colors... The children... For there are now no children, nor colors to behold... The lights have been switched off... The children drifted to sleep...
In my latest collection, I still ask numerous questions... Not seeking answers... But simply hoping our dim, painful reality would pass, just like a bad dream... Or maybe the dull wait led me to sink in a deep, dark swamp, called denial....

About the Artwork
On our bodies...
They left no place for dreams... Imagination is no longer there.... Their hands exploited everything, the past, the present and the future... They smeared our souls... Our bodies are now their battle fields, tainted, smeared, fought upon with their insane wars... Who could restore the long lost colors... The children... This work is inspired by an old folk game, and among the game is a song with the words “Laila, why are you crying” and Laila answers “I want my friends.. but the reality of wars and conflicts in the region prevented our children from leading a normal life"".
